Creating a simple rainbow brush


This is an easy illustrator tutorial on how to make a simple rainbow brush and make it interesting!

STEP 1 – Form five long thin rectangles and group them.



STEP 2 – Drag the grouped rectangles to your brushes palette, select new pattern brush, name it and click OK. In the pattern brush options box, choose original and click OK.

STEP 3 – To make some interesting shapes using the rainbow brush, first create a rounded rectangle (While holding the left mouse button, press the up arrow on the keyboard to round the edges)



STEP 4 – Choose the Scissors tool and click on the points shown in the image below. Then delete the end section.



STEP 5 – Pick an end point then move it to make that side shorter that the other one.



STEP 6 – Select the shape, click on your rainbow brush in the Brush palette.



STEP 7 – Copy the shape.



STEP 8 – Reverse one of the shapes and align it with the other. Choose both end points right click your mouse, and in the options, click join.



STEP 9 – Increase your stroke size to 2px, and put it at a 45 degree angle – and your done!

To change the colours of the shape, choose the shape and click Object > Path > Outline path, they will now be a solid shape ready for you to colour!
